How to print a 3-inch (80 mm) thermal bill
Set up an 80 mm thermal receipt printer in Windows and QuPOS: paper size, silent printing, auto-print after save, logo, GST/VAT breakup and UPI QR code.
About 15 minutes · Applies to: Barcode Billing, Supermarket, Textile, Mobile Shop
The 3-inch (80 mm) bill is the most common retail bill. It fits item name, quantity, rate, MRP and amount on a line, plus a tax breakup and a payment QR code at the bottom.
You will need
- 80 mm thermal receipt printer
- Printer driver from the manufacturer
- 80 mm thermal paper roll
Steps
Install the printer driver
Install the Windows driver from the printer manufacturer and print a Windows test page. Set the paper size in the driver to 80 mm (often listed as 80 × 297 mm or "Roll paper 80 mm").
Choose the 3-inch format
In QuPOS, open Settings → Printing and choose the 3-inch (80 mm) bill format.
Pick the printer for silent printing
Pick your thermal printer under "Thermal printer (2" / 3")". Bills then print without a print dialog. Use Test print to check.
Set auto-print and copies
Turn on auto-print after save if you want every bill printed when you press F9, and set the number of copies (for example 2 if you keep a shop copy).
Design the header and footer
Add your shop name, address, phone and GSTIN or VAT number to the header. Optionally add a logo, footer text such as your returns policy, the UPI QR code and the "You saved" line.
Print a test bill
Make a bill with two or three items and press F9. Check that nothing is cut off at the right edge and that the paper cuts cleanly.
Tips and troubleshooting
- If the right side is cut off, the driver paper width is wrong: set it to 80 mm, or 72 mm printable width if the driver asks.
- A black, high-contrast logo prints far better on thermal paper than a colour logo.
- Thermal prints fade with heat and sunlight; use Save as PDF or reports if you need a long-term record.
